Summary:
«Calíope. Consolidación de la capacitación de postgrado en línea asincrónica en adicciones comportamentales: de las loot box a las criptomonedas» is a virtual training course aimed at consolidating and expanding training for professionals in the field of prevention and intervention in behavioral addictions, especially those working with young people.
The 60-hour training course is financed by the European Union – Next Generation and the Recovery Plan of the Ministry of Health through the Government Delegation for the National Plan on Drugs, which is why it can be offered completely free of charge. In addition, it is a course that was certified at postgraduate level by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, an institution with which Episteme has a collaboration agreement.
In an eminently digital world, more and more young people – especially men – are becoming interested in digital investments, cryptocurrencies or NFTs. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic has modified some technological consumption patterns, and has boosted the compulsive uses of screens, social networks and video games. For all these reasons, the aim of the course is to provide quality training aimed at understanding what behavioral addictions are and how they operate beyond gambling or sports betting addiction.
The course is structured in four modules, with four topics each. The first topic deals with the foundations of behavioral addictions in general. For this reason, the terminology that defines these addictive behaviors is explored, the historical background of the different behavioral addictions (video games, screens, sex, shopping…) is explained, the socio-cultural changes that enhance addictions are highlighted and, finally, the Spanish and European laws that regulate the associated activities are detailed. Secondly, the course explores the functional elements of behavioral addictions: the different products offered, the foundations of classic and new behavioral addictions are detailed and, finally, the basics of cryptocurrencies and NFT technology are presented. Module three presents the so-called addictive communities through the exploration of three case studies and, finally, the course closes with a detailed explanation and evaluation of the forms of prevention and intervention in the face of behavioral addictions.
