To provide asynchronous virtual training on behavioural addictions, with a particular focus on cryptocurrencies, new digital investments and video games, for individuals and professional teams interested in the subject.
“Calíope. Consolidación de la capacitación de postgrado en línea asincrónica en adicciones comportamentales: de las loot boxes a las criptomonedas” is a virtual training course aimed at consolidating and expanding the training of professionals in the field of prevention and intervention in behavioural addictions, especially those working with young people.
The 60-hour course is funded by the European Union – Next Generation and the Ministry of Health’s Recovery Plan through the Government Delegation for the National Plan on Drugs, which is why it can be offered completely free of charge. It is also a course certified at postgraduate level by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, an institution with which Episteme has a collaboration agreement.
In an eminently digital world, more and more young people, especially men, are interested in digital investments, cryptocurrencies or NFTs. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed some technological consumption patterns and encouraged the compulsive use of screens, social networks and video games. For all these reasons, the aim of the course is to provide quality training aimed at understanding what behavioural addictions are and how they work, beyond gambling or sports betting addiction.
The course is divided into four modules, each with four topics. The first topic deals with the basics of behavioural addictions in general. To this end, we will look at the terminology used to define these addictive behaviours, the historical background of the different behavioural addictions (video games, screens, sex, shopping…), the socio-cultural changes that encourage addiction and the Spanish and European legislation that regulates these activities. Secondly, the course examines the functional elements of behavioural addictions: the different products on offer, the foundations of classic and new behavioural addictions and, finally, the basics of cryptocurrencies and NFT technology. The third module presents the so-called addictive communities through the study of three case studies, and finally, the course concludes with a detailed explanation and evaluation of forms of prevention and intervention in the face of behavioural addictions.
