To successfully implement the “Making us respect” program as an effective, efficient and quality project to prevent hate speech, racism, xenophobia and Islamophobia and other types of discrimination in digital environments.
The digital space represents a channel for the amplification and dissemination of hate speech. Anonymity and the trivialization of its consequences result in a digital socialization environment where people’s rights are systematically violated, especially those belonging to one or more minorities. Young people use digital channels as spaces for socialization and identity construction, being potential victims, disseminators or passive spectators. The “Making us respect” program, aware of the need to eliminate hate speech in the digital space, represents an intervention specifically focused on its idiosyncrasy. Based on a previous quantitative and qualitative diagnosis of the nature of hate speeches circulating on social networks and analyzing good practices implemented with quality at international level, we drafted the prevention guide aimed at education professionals. At the same time, we created the “radar against discrimination”, a virtual strategy focused on the detection and monitoring of hate speech profiles and their victims. Currently, with the lessons learned, we are in the second phase of designing the contents to publicize the program in the virtual space.
