Sports betting has burst into the heart of Spanish society with considerable tension. Sports betting has accompanied mankind since the dawn of the civilization process. But now, in the digital society, from a device connected to the Internet we can bet 24/7 without moving. The new scenario has led some voices to understand gambling from a small fragment of reality: gambling addiction, economic bankruptcy, community dismemberment, etc.

This critical essay refuses simple answers because it analyzes the multifaceted phenomenon of gambling from a sociocultural perspective. The hegemonic value system, the consumer society, labor precariousness, plutocracy, the supply of gambling and a gambling community in illegality help to understand why gambling is just another leisure activity for young people. A leisure with risks, but since the only certainty for young people is that they will live in uncertainty, why avoid the uncertainty of gambling?
