Main objective:
Implement the Community Service pilot program for the prevention of harm from alcohol and other drugs.
Summary:
The program “application of the Community Service pilot program for the prevention of alcohol and other drug harm” represents the launch of the “Community Service” pilot program. The program intervened in reality through a deep knowledge about it combining research and intervention. The program, which is multi-component in nature, was based on three components: work with the community, work on everything related to the application of laws (enforcement) and work on RBS (responsible beverage service).
First of all, we selected the city and the intervention area where we would pilot the program. From an evaluation of the main characteristics that the city and intervention area had to achieve, we selected the city of Valencia and, specifically, the area of Ruzafa, one of the nightlife areas.
We carry out the participatory diagnosis prior to the intervention with the root bases organizations of the area. This allowed us a first approach with the root bases organizations of the intervention area, the government team and the local police units involved.
One of the cornerstones of the program was the evaluation: we designed a validated survey aimed at people who use nightlife, we designed the group interview with the city police and we detected the key aspects to intervene in the selected area. The result of the program was to have two cities to apply the program, an experimental city, where we carry out the intervention and a comparison city. As well as designing and validating the methodology through which we would evaluate it.
