To implement the Community Service Pilot Programme for the Prevention of Alcohol and Other Drug Harm.
The programme “Implementation of the Community Service Pilot Programme for the Prevention of Alcohol and Other Drug Harm” represents the launch of the “Community Service” pilot programme. The programme intervened in reality through a deep knowledge of it, combining research and intervention. The programme, which is multi-component in nature, was based on three components: working with the community, working on everything related to the application of laws (enforcement) and working on RBS (responsible beverage service).
First, we selected the city and the intervention area where we would pilot the programme. From an evaluation of the main characteristics that the city and the intervention area had to achieve, we chose the city of Valencia and specifically the area of Ruzafa, one of the nightlife areas.
We carried out the participatory diagnosis before the intervention with the grassroots organisations of the area. This allowed us to have a first approach with the grassroots organisations of the intervention area, the government team and the local police units involved.
One of the cornerstones of the programme was evaluation: we designed a validated survey aimed at people who use nightlife, we designed the group interview with the municipal police and we identified the key aspects to intervene in the selected area. The result of the programme was to have two cities to apply the programme, an experimental city where we carry out the intervention and a comparison city. As well as designing and validating the methodology through which we would evaluate it.
