The objective of the study is to analyse in depth the extent of methamphetamine supply and demand in Spain and the phenomena linked to its use, in order to clarify the potential for a new cycle of stimulant drug problems, with methamphetamine as the main subject of study.
Summary:
The research study ‘Methamphetamine in Spain: trends, profiles and harm’ examines the phenomenon of methamphetamine use in various regions of Spain. In recent years, various services and observatories have observed an increase in the prevalence of methamphetamine use in specific contexts and have identified a lack of attention to this phenomenon in the different casuistry and edges that are currently presented.
The present study aims to address this knowledge gap by providing a comprehensive overview of the impact of methamphetamine in the specific territories covered by the research, with a view to offering a more detailed understanding of the general situation of this phenomenon in Spain as a whole. In order to achieve this, the study will examine the motivations of users, the different trends and profiles of users detected from a phenomenological point of view, as well as the individual, social and collective repercussions of methamphetamine use. Concurrently, the research will analyse the methamphetamine market and, by extension, its production, distribution, entry routes and other related issues. Finally, the research will also analyse the responses given by the relevant institutions, namely those responsible for providing services to people who use drugs, reviewing the errors and successes of the actions aimed at the prevention and treatment of the use of the substance, both nationally and internationally.
By pursuing these two research strands, the study will be able to estimate future trends and impacts, identify risk and protective factors, and contribute to the definition of effective prevention and response strategies.
